Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's soccer squad looks forward to hosting its first ODAC opponent of the season in Roanoke on Wednesday, September 25 at 7 p.m. The matchup will serve as the program's Code Red game, the first on Shellenberger Field this 2024-25 academic year.
The Hornets (2-1-2) are coming off back-to-back victories at home against William Peace and Catholic. Against the Pacers, the crew scored two early goals and netted a third later in the second half, shutting down William Peace 3-0. The bout versus Catholic saw
Chris Wiley score in the final 10 minutes of action to put Lynchburg in front, 1-0, and secure a second consecutive shutout victory. Wiley's performance earned him ODAC Offensive Player of the Week.
This will be the 29th meeting between th two programs, The Maroons claiming the advantage 13-8-7. However, as of late the series has been controlled by Lynchburg, winning their last three match-ups.
The Maroons (3-0-2) enter this match off of a dominant 4-1 victory over Center, all of their goals coming in the second half. So far this season, Roanoke has out scored their opponents 8-3, led by returning ,and current, leading goals scorer Michael Ramsey.Â
The two schools have three common opponents through their five respective matches this season with Catholic, Oglethorpe, and Emory. While both team defeated Catholic by a goal and tied against Oglethorpe, the Maroons notched an impressive win over #20 Emory 1-0.
Wednesday's competition is the first of many conference contests for the Hornets. Looking for a strong start in ODAC action, Lynchburg follows up Wednesday's outing with two road affairs. First will be Virginia Wesleyan in Virginia Beach, Va. on Saturday, September 28 at 4:30 p.m. and succeeding that will be Averett in Danville, Va. on Wednesday, October 2 at 7 p.m.
