Fredericksburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's soccer squad travels to Fredericksburg, Va. to take on the Mary Washington Eagles for their seventh match of the season and final nonconference outing on Wednesday, September 25 at 7 p.m.
Between Lynchburg and Mary Washington, the two squads have taken to the pitch against each other four times, dating back to 2001. The Hornets have control of the head-to-head against the Eagles, with a record of two wins, zero losses, and two ties. Most recently, the Hornets squared off on the pitch against the Emory Eagles in Charlotte, N.C., where they lost the contest 2-1. The Hornets are looking to bounce back into the win column this week.
During the match against the Eagles, look for Madelyn Boyce to be a game changer as she leads the Hornets with three goals up to this point of the season. Also look for Ella Tampio-Irons to put one in the back of the net as she leads the squad with six shots on goal in six games played, netting one.
Moving north to Fredericksburg, the Eagles' early season has looked promising, especially against ODAC competition, including a 2-1 victory against Randolph-Macon and a 1-1 tie with Virginia Wesleyan. On the attacking side, Lynchburg will keep a close eye on Eliza Franklin, as she leads her respective crew with three goals on just five shots on goal.
The Hornets will kick off ODAC competition against Guilford College after their stint with the Eagles, starting on Saturday, September 28 at 1 p.m. in Lynchburg, Va.
