Men's Soccer Takes Talents To Virginia Wesleyan

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's soccer team rides its three-game win streak to Virginia Beach, Va. for a contest against ODAC foe Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, September 28 at 4:30 p.m.

The Hornets (3-1-2) started the season off slowly but have put the pieces together in their last three outings. Last time out, Lynchburg battled against rainy elements and took down Roanoke in a thrilling 2-1 triumph. With a Code Red Crowd, the Hornets sandwiched goals between a Maroon score to secure the victory. Evan Pask scored first and Kenny Robles finished a penalty kick that gave Lynchburg the lead for good.

This season, six different performers have scored for the Hornets and Chris Wiley leads the way with two goals. Netminder Thomas Viscuso has a .750 save percentage in six games this year, stopping 12 shots and allowing four goals. As a squad, Lynchburg has shown strength defensively and ranks third in the ODAC for shutout percentage (.500) and goals against average (.667).

Lynchburg and Virginia Wesleyan have squared up on the pitch 33 times since 1999. The Hornets own a slight edge in the series, winning 15 contests and drawing six times. The two programs last met in the ODAC semifinals on Nov. 1, 2023, which resulted in a 3-2 overtime victory for Lynchburg after midfielder Zach Whelan netted the game-winning goal in extra time. Less than a month before that outing on Oct. 14, 2023, the Marlins claimed a 1-0 victory against the Hornets.

After this weekend's competition, Lynchburg travels to Danville, Va. for a matchup against Averett on Wednesday, October 2 at 7 p.m. before coming back home to host Randolph-Macon and Randolph.
