Box Score 2 Washington, D.C. - The Hornets wrapped up their second and final day of the Worthington Classic with a 0-3 loss to Bethel and a 3-1 victory against Marymount.
On day one of the weekend road trip, the Hornets finished both matches in three sets, winning the first and falling in the latter. Today, Lynchburg opened up against a very talented Bethel team.
Betehel jumped on the Hornets right out of the gates, claiming a 10-2 lead in the first frame. That momentum would carry them to the finish line, with a 25-17 win in the first set.
In the second and third frame, Bethel continued to pound the Lynchburg defense, consistently finding the floor on their kills. The team would claim the next two sets 25-18 and 25-15. Bethel finished the match with a .342 attacking percentage along with eight service aces.
In the following contest, the Hornets would get back on track. Lynchburg came out firing, led by
Kailey Keough, who would go on to finish the contest with 15 kills, to win 25-22 in the first frame.
Marymount kept the contest competitive with a 25-23 victory in the second set. But the Hornets offense proved to be too much to handle late in the third and fourth set. After winning the third frame 25-17, Lynchburg showed no signs of slowing down in the forth. A 12-0 run in the middle of teh fourth would close out the contest with anther 25-17 finish, for a 3-1 win.
Tori Williamson and
Ava Meinhardt were named to the All-Tournament Team for their performances. Meinhardt finished with 12 blocks and 52 kills on a .376 attacking percentage across four games. Williamson tallied 38 digs along with 43 kills throughout the classic.
Lynchburg will now return home for an ODAC affair vs. Roanoke in Turner Gymnasium on Friday, Oct. 4.
