Lynchburg, Va. – The University of Lynchburg women's soccer team will face Mary Washington on Tuesday, Oct. 28 for its final home match of the regular season.
The Hornets hope to recover from a 4-1 defeat on Shellenberger Field against Bridgewater on Saturday, while the Eagles ride a four-match winning streak into the week with a 16-0 scoring advantage over their opponents.
Lynchburg holds a 9-5-2 overall record, including a 4-4-1 mark in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play. The Hornets won just one of their previous six matches, although the team had faced each of the top four seeds in the ODAC standings.
In the all-time series, Lynchburg holds a 3-0-2 advantage with three victories between the past four seasons. In 2024, the Hornets triumphed with a 1-0 scoreline, headlined by Haleigh Casey's goal off a corner kick in the 63rd minute.
UMW enters Tuesday with a 12-2-3 record and is preparing to face its fourth ODAC opponent. As members of the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference, the team has yet to play a single conference match.Â
The Eagles earned a 5-0 victory against Randolph-Macon in the season opener, along with a 2-0 win over Virginia Wesleyan in mid-September; the team lost to Bridgewater 3-1 just three days before battling the Marlins.
Within the recent seven-match unbeaten streak, Mary Washington showcased its defensive prowess with a shutout in every game. Johns Hopkins was the most recent opponent to score a goal against the Eagles on Wednesday, Oct. 1.
Junior forward Maci Landel leads the team with nine goals and nine assists. Nine Eagles have tallied multiple goals in 2025, and four of the team's top five scorers will return next season. Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Orn boasts 15 starts between the pipes, holding a 0.53 GAA with 28 saves.
Tuesday marks UMW's season finale before beginning the C2C Conference Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 6. Lynchburg will face Hollins on Thursday for the team's final regular-season match, before the ODAC Quarterfinals commence on Saturday, Nov. 1.
