No. 25 Lynchburg Captures Sweep Over EMU

LYNCHBURG, Va. --The University of Lynchburg volleyball team seized their fourth consecutive sweep on Wednesday night, powering past Eastern Mennonite in Turner Gymnasium.

The Hornets (23-2, 9-1 ODAC) now boast an eight-game winning streak that includes six three-set victories and only two sets dropped throughout that stretch. Lynchburg completed the sweep in dominant fashion, holding the Royals (5-18, 1-8 ODAC) to a .045 hitting percentage while the Hornets swung an impressive .391 as a team.

Kate Hardie spearheaded the offensive effort for Lynchburg, notching a team-high 12 kills to go along with two service aces. Sophomore middle blocker Leah DiNardo provided a strong presence at the net with nine kills and a block and a half, while the Hornets' offense continued to spread the ball effectively across the lineup.

Defensively, Kailey Keough anchored the back row with a team-best nine digs, followed closely by Tori Williamson and Cassi Blackmore, who chipped in eight digs each to help limit the Royals' scoring chances.

Set-by-set, the Hornets controlled every phase of the match. In the opening frame, Lynchburg's offense came out firing with 16 kills and a .400 hitting percentage, while Eastern Mennonite struggled to find rhythm and hit into the negatives. Lynchburg matched its 16-kill output in the second set and elevated its efficiency to .469 despite the Royals improving their attack. The Hornets closed the match with 12 kills in the third, swinging .300 and maintaining tempo as East Mennonite again hit below zero.

Lynchburg wraps up its regular-season non-conference slate on Saturday, Nov. 1, in Salisbury, Md. The Hornets will take on Mary Washington at 3 p.m. followed by a matchup with host Salisbury at 5 p.m.
