Hornets Dominate Hollins in High-Scoring Season Finale

Roanoke, Va. – The University of Lynchburg women's soccer team matched its season high for goals in a match with a 9-0 victory over Hollins to conclude the regular season on Thursday.

Nine different Hornets scored a dominant offensive display, including 40 shots and nine corner kicks. Thursday marked the first time since 2013 that Lynchburg netted at least seven goals with no Hornet recording multiple scores.

Kate Shepherd recorded just 24 minutes between the pipes as Lynchburg's starting goalkeeper, although the shutout represents the Hornets' 11th clean sheet of the season. Alessandra Socio is the only goalkeeper of Lynchburg's trio to record a save against Hollins' three shots.

Lynchburg led 5-0 through the first 45 minutes, and Lauren Orner recorded the first Hornets goal in the 16th minute. Morgan Oliver inserted a corner kick on the doorstep of the frame, and after a series of ricochets, Orner connected with the ball to take the lead.

The Hornets attacked relentlessly in the middle portion of the half, scoring four goals in a five-minute span. Madelyn Boyce, Grace Gaskins, Sadie Bruton and Hannah Phillips each contributed to the lead to create a towering lead with 65 minutes to play.

To begin the second half, Morgan Oliver found the net for the first time in eight games, extending her team-leading tally to nine goals in 2025. Oliver also posted two assists in the first half.

A late-game surge featured three additional goals in a four-minute span to cap the Hornets' impressive offensive showing. Catey Paulette scored her first goal of the season, Samantha Mitchell popped the net after finding space in the box and Iara Moscovich registered her first collegiate goal.

With the win, Lynchburg finishes the regular season with a 10-5-3 overall record and 5-4-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference mark. Coach Todd Olsen has reached ten wins in every season since the turn of the century, excluding the Covid-shortened 2020 campaign.

Lynchburg will enter the ODAC Tournament as the seventh seed after collecting 16 points in conference play.

The Hornets will travel to Virginia Beach, Va. to face Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, Nov. 1 in the ODAC Quarterfinals; the game represents a rematch of the 2024 ODAC Semifinals, in which the Marlins scored three unanswered goals in the second half to steal a 3-2 victory at Shellenberger Field.
