Lynchburg, Va. -- With
Bryce Demory and
Eric Hiett leading the way at the plate, and
Logan Tapman commanding the mound, the University of Lynchburg baseball team secured a 10-1 win against Emory on Saturday night at Worthington Field on the second day of the NCAA Tournament Regional.
The Hornets got on the board early on a bases-loaded walk by
Ryder Warren to plate their first run. Shortly after,
Logan Webster delivered an RBI single through the left side, bringing in
Joe Munitz and giving Lynchburg a 2-0 advantage in the first frame.
Emory responded in the top of the second with an RBI triple by Brock Liu, cutting its deficit to 2-1, but Lynchburg wasted no time reasserting control. In the bottom half,
Benton Jones singled up the middle to score
Brandon Garcia and push the lead to 3-1.
Lynchburg's offense continued to roll in the third as Hiett singled up the middle, driving in Webster and Warren to extend the edge to 5-1. Hiett stayed hot in the fifth with an RBI double to left center, contributing to an impressive four-for-five day with 3 RBI.
The highlight of the night came in the sixth inning when Demory launched a three-run homer over the left field wall, driving in Jones and Pokorak to break the game open at 9-1. An unearned run in the seventh, scored by
Maddox Tsutsui on a wild pitch, sealed the scoring at 10-1 in favor of Lynchburg.
Tapman threw seven innings on the bump and earned the win, allowing just one run in 28 batters faced while throwing five strikeouts.
Trent Judd closed the game in the final two frames and did not allow a hit.
Lynchburg preps for a 1:30 p.m. game tomorrow on Fox Field against the winner of Emory and Maryville, who are set to play at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning.Â
