Union, N.J. – After opening the season with two five-set wins on Friday, the University of Lynchburg women's volleyball team capped its road trip Saturday with a pair of sweeps over Mount Aloysius and Kean.
The Hornets began the day by defeating Mount Aloysius behind a balanced team performance. Kate Hardie led the attack with 16 kills on a .379 hitting percentage, while Ava Meinhardt added 10 kills. Defensively, Tori Williamson and Abbey Barlow chipped in 17 and 11 digs, and Leah DiNardo posted a match-high three blocks.
Lynchburg jumped out quickly, taking a 9-3 lead in the first set and cruising to a 25-20 win. The Hornets dominated the second frame with 12 kills to just two errors and five aces, including three during a 10-2 run, to claim a 25-15 victory. A late 6-0 push in the third sealed the sweep, 25-20.
In the second match, the Hornets downed Kean behind their best defensive effort of the weekend. Meinhardt tallied three blocks, with DiNardo and Hardie adding two each, while Williamson and Hardie shared match-high honors with 13 kills apiece.
Lynchburg opened fast again, racing to a 10-2 lead en route to a 25-14 first-set win. Nine service aces fueled the Hornets throughout the match, marking the third time in four contests they hit that mark. Lynchburg closed the sweep with 25-21 and 25-23 victories.
The Hornets leave New Jersey 4-0 and now look ahead to their home opener against Southern Virginia on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 7 p.m.
