Lynchburg, Va. – For the first time in the 2025-26 season, the Hornets are back home. The Lynchburg women's volleyball squad opens its home slate in Turner Gymnasium on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 7 p.m. against Southern Virginia.
The programs have met 15 times since 2012, with Lynchburg holding a narrow 8-7 edge in the all-time series. Last season, the Hornets earned a four-set road win in Buena Vista, Va., extending their current streak over the Knights to three straight.
Lynchburg returns home riding momentum from a perfect 4-0 opening weekend in New Jersey. The Hornets outlasted their first two opponents in five-set thrillers on Friday before sweeping back-to-back matches on Saturday. Transfers Kate Hardie (Mercer), Alexis Scipione (Richard Bland), and Jacqueline Bryant (Juniata) all made immediate impacts in their Hornet debuts.
Hardie and Bryant's strong offensive performances vaulted them into the ODAC's top-10 for kills, ranking second and eighth respectively. Junior setter Scipione orchestrated the offense with precision, leading the conference with 150 assists through the opening four matches.
Veteran returners also played key roles. Libero Morgan Clarke and outside hitter Tori Williamson anchored the back row, each averaging over 3.5 digs per set. Williamson also contributed 2.9 kills per set, good for a top-15 mark in the ODAC.
Southern Virginia enters Tuesday's contest with a perfect 3-0 record after sweeping through the Covenant Classic in Lookout Mountain, Ga. Sophomore outside hitter Aubrey Packer paces the Knights with 4.36 kills per set, while middle blockers Ryann Vail and Summer Hahn provide a defensive wall at the net, combining for 25 total blocks in their first three matches.
Following Tuesday's home opener, Lynchburg hits the road again, traveling to Haverford, Pa., for a three-match weekend, beginning Friday, Sept. 5, against Scranton.
