Bovo And Romero Tally Hat Tricks In 9-0 Win Over Regent

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's soccer team had Chris Bovo and Carlos Andres Romero record hat tricks as the crew earned its second straight win in the squad's home opener with a 9-0 triumph against Regent on Saturday evening on Shellenberger Field.

The Hornets (3-0-2) remain unbeaten on the season with today's commanding victory. Romero set the tone, scoring twice in the opening 21 minutes to give Lynchburg full control, each goal just four minutes apart. Bovo added another goal in the 28th minute and the Hornets coasted into halftime with a three-goal lead.

Lynchburg didn't let up after the break, exploding for six more in the second half. Chris Wiley opened the scoring surge less than a minute into the period, finishing a feed from Romero. Romero then completed his hat trick in the 49th minute with help from Matthew Viscuso. Just two minutes later, Evan Pask buried his chance off an assist from Fischer Daniel.

Bovo capped off his hat trick with goals in the 57th and 59th minutes, the second assisted by Kohlby Wilson, pushing the advantage to 8-0. Jacson Shepherd closed the scoring in the 66th minute to seal the Hornets' highest offensive output since 2019 when Lynchburg last squared off against Regent.

Lynchburg fired 34 shots to Regent's two, forcing 10 saves from the Royals' goalkeepers. The Hornets also controlled set pieces, earning six corner kicks while allowing just one. Lynchburg's defense remained unbreakable, limiting Regent to a single shot on goal as three Hornet keepers combined for the shutout.

The Hornets take their five-game unbeaten streak to the pitch this Wednesday to face their first top-25 nationally ranked competitor of the year. Lynchburg will meet No. 24 Mary Washington on Shellenberger Field on Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.
