Women's Soccer Clashes with Emory in Charlotte, N.C.

Lynchburg, Va. – The University of Lynchburg women's soccer team will travel to Charlotte, N.C. to face #2 Emory on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in a non-conference neutral-site affair between two unbeaten teams.

In 19 all-time meetings, Emory holds a slight edge with a 9-10 record against the Hornets. The Eagles have clinched three straight victories against Lynchburg dating back to 2022; each match during the streak was played in Charlotte, N.C.

Last season, Emory earned a 2-1 win with two unanswered goals in the second half. Madelyn Boyce scored in the third minute for Lynchburg to give the Hornets the early lead, while Emily Woodall and Mikayla Camp gave Emory the decisive strikes to win the match.

The Hornets enter Sunday with a 4-0-1 record, having allowed just one goal in five matches . Lynchburg posted four consecutive shutouts to begin the season for the second time in program history, matching the 1999 team's streak of four matches.

The team's 0.20 goals against average sits first in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and 16th in Division III. Additionally, Lynchburg is saving 94.4 percent of opponents' shots, leading the ODAC and occupying 14th in DIII.

Emory's 7-0 record has accelerated the team to second in the nation with a pair of ranked wins. The Eagles began the season with a 3-2 victory over Division II foe Columbus State, which was ranked second at the time. The Eagles also toppled #15 Washington & Lee with a 1-0 victory in Cary, N.C. last Sunday.

Sophomore Mikayla Camp leads the team with six goals and 12 points, though Kaitlyn Nimmer follows closely behind with four and Zia Tomlin has netted three. An astonishing 26 of Emory's 28 total goals have been assisted with 15 Eagles tallying an assist.

The Eagles' offense remains nationally acclaimed, as the squad is third in DIII for assists per game at 3.43 and seventh for shots per game with 28.

In goal, Sophia Garcia posted three shutouts with a 0.52 GAA in the first seven matches. The senior keeper has started every match and played 524 minutes between the pipes.
