Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's soccer team takes its three-game win streak to a neutral site clash against Franklin and Marshall on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. in Harrisonburg, Va. at the Horizons Edge Sports Campus.
The Hornets (4-0-2) roll into this midweek matchup on a three-game winning streak, having taken down the likes of St. Mary's, Regent, and Mary Washington. In the squad's last outing against the Eagles of UMW, Lynchburg got out to an early edge as
Keaton Napior headed it through off a corner from
Evan Pask in the eighth minute. The Hornets held onto the advantage for the entire contest and played an extra-man up after a Mary Washington red card in the 36th minute.
The only occasion these two sides met on the pitch in the past 25 years was last season on Sept. 1, 2024 in Winchester, Va., which resulted in a scoreless draw. Through seven games this year, the Diplomats own a 1-5-1 overall record, dropping their most recent outing against Muhlenberg, 2-1.
Though FMC has not finished many matches in the win column, they have faced difficult opponents, including two top-15 nationally ranked squads in Denison (then-ranked No. 6) and Kenyon (then-ranked No. 13) as well as Rowan who was receiving votes in the national coaches poll.
For the Diplomats, Thomas Kaplan and Jack Borden have tallied two goals apiece to top the team in offensive production. On the defensive side, Franklin and Marshall have allowed an average of 2.0 goals per game to opponents, giving up a season-high four goals against Denison.Â
Lynchburg's defensive unit has completed four shutouts in its six games this season and allow 0.5 goals per affair. Starting netminder
Thomas Viscuso boasts a .769 save percentage with 10 saves and three goals allowed. The offensive production has been a collective effort as 11 different performers have put it into the back of the net this season.
Following Wednesday's competition, the Hornets will head to Ashland, Va. for their first conference match of the year, taking on Randolph-Macon on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 12 p.m.
