Lynchburg, Va. – The University of Lynchburg women's soccer team will follow Highway 460 to Salem, Va. on Wednesday, Oct. 1 as the Hornets clash with Roanoke for a 5:00 p.m. kickoff at Kerr Stadium.

Lynchburg enters Wednesday's match with a 6-1-1 record, while Roanoke holds a 5-4-1 mark to begin 2025. Both teams won their previous two matches, scoring multiple goals in each affair.

Since 1999, Lynchburg holds the series advantage with 24 victories to just five defeats. The teams have also combined for five draws, including the 1-1 result from last season. Lynchburg hosted the 2024 matchup, outshooting Roanoke 16-11 despite the game ending in a tie on Shellenberger Field.

Lauren Orner leads the Hornets with six goals, good for second in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, while junior counterpart Morgan Oliver trails closely behind with four goals and two assists. The pair of midfielders have scored in the same match four times throughout the season, most recently scoring in the Hornets' 3-1 victory over Marymount on Saturday.

Roanoke rides back-to-back victories over Averett and Guilford into Wednesday's match, led by junior forward Rebecca Carr, who has tallied five goals in 10 appearances. Madalyn Szoke and Lauren Fisher have also netted multiple goals with two apiece, and junior goalkeeper Grace Suchy started all ten matches between the pipes for the Maroons.

While Wednesday marks the first meeting of the season between Lynchburg and Roanoke, the ODAC foes shared facilities for the first two weekends of the season. 

The Maroons hosted the Roanoke Invitational in late August, where both teams faced Denison and Rhodes. Seven days later, the two clubs faced New Jersey City and Meredith at Lynchburg's Shellenberger Classic.
