No. 7/6 Baseball Earns Two Commanding Top-25 Wins At D3 Showcase

Greensboro, N.C. -- The University of Lynchburg baseball team put on stellar performances this weekend at the D3 Showcase, claiming dominant wins over Cortland, 12-3, and Salisbury, 12-1, at First National Bank Field.

Against No. 21/13 Cortland (1-2), the No. 7/6 Hornets (4-1) broke through in the third inning when Jack Pokorak doubled to left field to score Benton Jones for the game's first run. The Hornets then erupted for five runs in the fourth, capitalizing on walks and errors. Brandon Garcia drew a bases-loaded walk to force in a run, and additional runs scored on a wild pitch and a throwing error. Jack Pokorak later reached on an error that brought home two more runs as Lynchburg built a 6-0 lead.

The offense continued in the fifth as Sean Pokorak doubled to center to drive in Kyle Moshier and Kyle Flora, stretching the advantage to 8-0. Cortland answered with two runs in the fifth and a solo home run by Lucas Granger in the sixth, but Lynchburg stayed in control. Jack Pokorak delivered another RBI double in the seventh, Sean Pokorak added a sacrifice fly in the eighth, and Gabriel Pegues capped the scoring with a two-run double in the ninth.

Lynchburg finished with eight hits and drew 17 walks. Sean Pokorak drove in three runs, Jack Pokorak had two doubles and two RBI, and Pegues added two RBI. On the mound, Tyler Kaltreider earned the win with 5.1 innings, allowing three runs while striking out four. The bullpen combination of Austin Riney, Trent Judd, and Davis Watson limited Cortland to one run over the final 3.2 innings.

In the second game against No. 9/5 Salisbury (2-1), Lynchburg again used a big inning to take control. After Salisbury scored in the first, Flora put Lynchburg ahead in the second with a two-run home run down the right-field line. The Hornets broke the game open in the fifth, scoring seven runs on five hits. Jack Pokorak singled home two runs, Flora doubled in two more, and Conner Moore followed with a two-run homer to right as the lead grew to 9-1.

Lynchburg added three more runs in the seventh, highlighted by a two-run double from Sean Pokorak. The Hornets totaled 12 hits, with Flora driving in four runs and Moore and the Pokorak brothers each contributed two RBI.

Logan Tapman earned the win, tossing five innings and allowing one run while striking out eight. Lucas Marrero and Colin McGuire combined for two scoreless innings of relief as Lynchburg secured the sweep.
