Hornets Take Down Eagles In ODAC Quarterfinals

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg men's lacrosse team powered past Bridgewater in the ODAC quarterfinal round, 25-8, on Monday night at Shellenberger Field.

The No. 7/3 Hornets start the conference postseason strong with an emphatic with over the Eagles. Although Lynchburg eventually claimed the victory, Bridgewater struck first with three early goals, then the Hornets settled in. Finn Schmidt got Lynchburg on the board, and Riley Hastings followed before Liam Holman tied the game at 3-3. Parker Sealey and Schmidt added late goals in the opening quarter to give Lynchburg a 5-3 lead after one.

Lynchburg broke the game open in the second quarter, scoring 11 goals to take full control. Holman led the surge with three goals in the period, including one assisted by Hastings. Schmidt and Spencer Vandenberg each added multiple goals, while Kayden Hinchey, Will Rubley, Kolbe Haug, and Hastings also found the net. The Hornets closed the half on a sustained run to build a 16-5 advantage at the break.

The Hornets continued to extend their lead in the third quarter. Hastings, Mark Rubley, and Holman each scored, including a man-up goal from Holman assisted by Schmidt, while Quincy White added another as Lynchburg pushed the margin to 20-5 entering the fourth.

Lynchburg added five more goals in the final period. Adam Volm opened the scoring off an assist from Hudson Royer, and Liam Crawford followed with an unassisted goal. Matej Roth converted on a man-up opportunity, while Nathan Miller scored twice late to cap the scoring and secure the 25-8 victory.

Holman led Lynchburg with five goals, while Hastings recorded three goals and three assists. Schmidt and Vandenberg each added three goals as the Hornets outshot Bridgewater 61-21, collected 56 ground balls, and won 23 faceoffs in the triumph.

With the win, the Hornets advance to the ODAC semifinal round and will welcome third-seeded Roanoke to Shellenberger Field on Friday, May 1. Time for the contest is to-be-determined, so stay tuned on lynchburgsports.com for schedule updates.
