Box Score Lynchburg, Va. – Four seniors registered a goal on Senior Day as the University of Lynchburg women's soccer team stamped a 9-0 victory over Hollins to remain undefeated and secure its second conference win.
To begin the season, Lynchburg improved to an undefeated 8-0 start and stayed on pace with the 2014 team's undefeated record. In addition, the Hornets claimed multiple goals for the seventh time this season and boasted nine different goal scorers.
Lynchburg owned a 28-1 shot advantage and directed 13 on frame. Lynchburg tallied seven corners and racked up five assists in the offensive onslaught.
In the first half, five of the Hornets' six shots on target found the net. Between the pipes, Kylie Cass earned the first start of her Lynchburg career and posted a shutout with one save. The Virginia Beach native entered Saturday with 13 career appearances, along with a 0.25 goals against average.
Teigan Casey opened the scoring in the third minute, assisted by a low rolling cross from Morgan Oliver. Two minutes later, Oliver weaved past the defense and scored her first goal of the season in isolation.
Sejal Wellington found the score sheet in the sixth minute, netting her first goal since the 2024 season. Makayla Hargrove added to the total with a 26th-minute strike, assisted by Hannah Phillips, while Gabriela Lewis snagged the first goal of her Lynchburg career in the 35th minute. The Hornets maintained a 5-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
To open the second half, Lauren Orner captured her first goal of the season in the 47th minute when Teigan Casey connected with a through ball.Â
Lynchburg's depth remained on display throughout the half as Abby Nadeau earned her first goal as a Hornet in the 61st minute. Later, Leigha Gronau corralled her fourth goal of the season with help from Kate Hillegas, as the freshman elevated her season total to 11 points.
Samantha Mitchell closed the scoring in the 74th minute with a strike to claim a 9-0 advantage. The shutout marks Lynchburg's sixth clean sheet of the 2026 campaign.
The Hornets will face a quick turnaround as they travel to Charlotte, N.C. on Sunday, Sept. 27 to battle Emory in a nonconference bout.
