Oscar Garcia joined University of Lynchburg's baseball coaching staff prior to the 2020 season and helped guide Lynchburg to new heights including a national championship in 2023.
In 2020, the Hornets were 11-4 before the COVID-19 pandemic brought an early end to the season. In 2021, Garcia helped Lynchburg to a new single-season wins record (36) and the program's first Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship since 2012. He was promoted to recruiting coordinator in the summer of 2021.
In 2021, Garcia was part of the coaching staff that led the Hornets to a program-record 36 wins and the program's first ODAC Championship and NCAA Regional Tournament appearance since 2012. The Hornets hitters led the conference in ten offensive categories including runs and hits. They led the nation with 286 walks and 38 sacrifice flies.
Garcia helped coach another potent offense in 2022 as Avery Neaves led the country in walks and won ODAC player of the year honors. The Hornets led the conference in four offensive categories including runs (409) and on-base percentage (.428).
Lynchburg hitters drove in 382 runs in 2023 with 34 home runs and 302 walks during the national championship season.
Garcia was a member of the Concord University baseball team, where he patrolled the outfield for the Mountain Lions. He graduated from Concord in 2018 with degrees in business finance and sport management. The Caracas, Venezuela native finished his master's in business administration at Lynchburg in 2021.
