2015 ODAC Sportsmanship Team
Senior (2017): Played in 35 games during his final year at shortstop for the Hornets...finished the year batting .275 with a .340 on-base percentage, scoring 24 runs, the second most on the team, and knocking in 15...best game came against Mt. Aloysius on February 26th, going 3-3 with 3 RBIs and two runs scored...had four hits against then ranked #9 Randolph-Macon on April 8th.
Junior (2016): Played in 27 games at shortstop for the Hornets in his junior season...finished with a .302 on base percentage backed by 24 hits...played well defensively, finishing third in defensive assists, totaling 66...had three hits against Stevenson on 3/13, while also scoring two on the day.
Sophomore (2015): Katona started all 33 of the games he played in at shortstop as a sophomore… One of the best defensive shortstops in the ODAC, he led the conference in assists with 127 and posted a .942 fielding percentage… Catalyst at the bottom of the order, consistently putting the ball in play at a 91% rate… Batted .400 with the bases loaded and .455 when leading off an inning… Went a career-best 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and three RBI at Guilford College on March 31.
Freshman (2014): Katona showed great defensive potential as a freshman…entered as a defensive replacement seven times on the season while pinch running twice…drew his only start of 2014 against Bluefield State on March 22…went 1-for-4 with an RBI and run scored while turning a great double play in the field…went 1-for-2 with an RBI in pinch hit opportunities in 2014…did not make an error in 10 chances.
Before LC: Spent two seasons as a starter for Mills E. Godwin High School in Richmond, Virginia…named Second Team All-Colonial District and all-academic as a junior…batted .362 as a senior….397 career hitter…led the Eagles to a district championship as a senior, finishing with a 18-6 record.
