Alyssa Reed joined the Lynchburg swimming staff as an assistant coach ahead of the Fall 2020 semester after helping the Hornets to the most successful inaugural season in the history of Old Dominion Athletic Conference swimming in 2019-20.

Reed earned first-team All-ODAC and second-team All-State honors for the Hornets as a graduate student in the Lynchburg program's first varsity season in more than 40 years. She finished her career with the program's records in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 and 200 butterfly, and 200 IM. She was also a member of all five record-holding relay teams in the program's first season. In her senior year, she became the Lynchburg club swim team's first-ever national qualifier.

A graduate of nearby Jefferson Forest High School, Reed was a standout for the Cavaliers and the Lynchburg YMCA as a prep swimmer, setting the JFHS program record in the 100 fly and placing in multiple events at the VHSL Group 4A championships her senior season, efforts that earned her The News & Advance's All-Area girls' swimmer of the year honor.

She graduated from Lynchburg in three years in 2019 with a degree in exercise physiology and completed her master's in public health from the University in 2020.
