Joseph Carroll entered his first season as an assistant track and field coach with the University of Lynchburg in January 2026.

Previously, Carroll was an assistant coach for Northeastern University track and field program, where he worked primarily with the women’s distance team. He helped the Huskies secure a top-3 conference finish in cross country and coached a national record holder at 600m.

Carroll brings a decorated background as a student-athlete and coach. He competed at the NCAA Division II level and was an integral part of the most successful seasons in Assumption University's program history.

Carroll captained Assumption’s cross country and track teams for two years, helping the Greyhounds set program history with top finishes in conference and regional competitions. Individually, he was a four-time All-Region performer and three-time Northeast-10 All-Conference selection.

Before joining Northeastern, Carroll served as an assistant coach at St. John’s High School in Shrewsbury, Mass., where he fostered substantial growth and mentored more than 30 student-athletes in their athletic and personal development. He also worked as a contributor for LetsRun.com, producing coverage and analysis of the collegiate and professional track seasons for an audience of over one million monthly readers.

A native of Cohasset, Mass., Carroll competed for Cohasset High School, where he was a member of the state champion cross country team.
