Ryan Johnson

Former All-America defender Ryan Johnson joined the Lynchburg coaching staff in the fall of 2022 as the program's full-time assistant coach. Johnson assists with all facets of the program, including recruiting, practice planning, individual player development, and operations.

Lynchburg earned the top-seed in the conference for the first time since 2015 in Johnson's first season in 2023, and the Hornets advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament. 

Johnson, a 2003 Lynchburg College alumnus, came to his alma mater from high prep alma mater, Durham Academy in Durham, N.C., where he was on the Cavaliers' staff for two seasons. He also worked extensively coaching lacrosse camps around the Southeast.

As a player, Johnson helped lead the Hornets to the program’s first-ever Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship and second-ever NCAA Division III tournament appearance in 2003. He was a team captain, a four-time All-ODAC selection, and represented Lynchburg in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association’s North-South Senior Game.

Johnson worked in sales and marketing for 15 years before entering into coaching full-time. He earned his master’s in business administration from Lynchburg in 2016.
