Stephanie Keator rejoined the University of Lynchburg Sports Medicine staff as an assistant athletic trainer in Fall 2025. She brings a broad range of experience in both clinical and collegiate athletic training settings.
Most recently, Keator served as a certified athletic trainer with Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, where she managed pre- and post-operative care, patient education, home exercise program design, and supported sterile procedures such as compartment testing and ultrasound-guided injections. She also provided athletic healthcare coverage as a Flex Athletic Trainer for various sports and schools in the Roanoke area.
Keator previously served on the Lynchburg staff as an assistant athletic trainer during the 2020–21 academic year after completing her graduate clinical placements at Jefferson Forest High School, E.C. Glass High School, University of Lynchburg baseball, and Alta Vista Combined School.
A 2020 graduate of the University of Lynchburg, she earned her Master of Science in Athletic Training after completing a Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University of Mary Washington in 2018. Her graduate research on emergency medical technicians’ knowledge of concussions and athletic trainers’ duties was recognized with the Outstanding Research in Athletic Training Award and presented at the NATA Conference.
Keator is a licensed athletic trainer in Virginia, board certified by the BOC, and also a CPR/First Aid Instructor. She is a past president of the Iota Tau Alpha Athletic Training Honors Society and a member of Phi Epsilon Kappa Health Science and Physical Education Honors Society.
