Melchiori Sets School Record in 10-0 Win Against Hollins
Lynchburg, VA - Sophomore Kristen Melchiori (Chantilly, VA/Chantilly) scored a school record five goals Saturday afternoon against Hollins University helping the Lynchburg College women's soccer team to their fifth straight win.
Shelley Hoath (Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon) began the scoring frenzy as she tallied the first score of the contest nine minutes in on an unassisted goal. Betsy Kwiatkowski (Mount Jackson, VA/Stonewall Jackson) scored her only goal of the day on a breakaway goal assisted by Cecilia Moore (Washington DC/Woodrow Wilson). Melchiori scored her first goal of the game at the thirty-minute mark on an assist from Jessica Mader (Red Bank, NJ/Red Bank Catholic). Shawn Jackson (Virginia Beach, VA/Floyd E. Kellam) followed with her second goal of the season and Tori Dott (Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Prep) scored off a crossing pass from Mader thirty-five minutes into the game. Freshman Grace Withers (Aldie, VA/Wakefield) added a second half goal and assisted on one of Melchiori's three second half scores. Katie Gebhard (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) also had an assist.
Goalkeeper Kristen Norkus made 16 saves for Hollins.
Lynchburg will travel to Guilford College for their next Old Dominion Athletic Conference match Wednesday at 7 p.m.
