Hornet women's soccer defeats Guilford
GREENSBORO, NC - Lynchburg College women's soccer remains perfect in conference play after they defeated Guilford College by a score of 5-0 on Wednesday night in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.
Reigning ODAC player of the week Kristen Melchiori (Chantilly, VA/Chantilly) and senior Betsy Kwiatkowski (Mount Jackson, VA/Stonewall Jackson) were the catalysts for the Hornets offense as both had two goals in the contest. The first goal of the night came from Kwiatkowski, who scored 5:25 into the game.
Melchiori was not far behind as she scored exactly eight minutes later off a rebound from the post. Her next goal came just a few minutes later off an assist from senior Lauren Hammond (Chattanooga, TN/Girls Prep). After being held without a goal through the first eight games of the season, Melchiori has exploded with eight goals over the past three games, giving her a .364 shot percentage for the season.
Hammond would extend the Hornets lead to 4-0 at the 35:13 mark of the second half off an assist from junior Joanie Snyder (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air). Kwiatkowski would get her second goal of the game 1:50 later to put Lynchburg ahead by five.
Lynchburg (9-2, 5-0) will return home Friday night to host Washington & Lee University at 7 p.m. on Shellenberger Field. It will be senior night for Lynchburg's eight seniors.
