Hornet Men's Basketball Wins First Game of the Season Over Mary Washington
NEWPORT NEWS, VA - The Lynchburg College men's basketball team earned their first victory of the 2010-11 campaign with a decisive 81-68 victory over the University of Mary Washington on Saturday in the Christopher Newport Classic.
Junior forward Nate Campbell (Cary, NC/Cary) led the Hornets with 19 points and 10 rebounds making it the second consecutive game with a double-double. Campbell went 8-15 from the field and also had three blocks on the night.
Lynchburg only led 28-26 at halftime but was able to pull ahead in the second half, scoring 53 points.
Junior guard Tucker Lucas (Pictured - Herndon, VA/Herndon) had 17 points and six rebounds and went 4-9 from three point range. Freshman guard Manny Hernandez (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) went 3-4 from three point range, registering nine points on the day and had six rebounds. He hit a clutch three-pointer at the 16:19 to put Lynchburg up by 11 in the second half.
Lynchburg (1-2) stays on the road and will travel to Methodist University on Tuesday to play the Monarchs at 6 p.m. Live stats are available here.
