LC Women's Basketball Drops Close Contest to Randolph-Macon
LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College women's basketball team came within one shot of defeating Randolph-Macon College Tuesday, but came up short at the buzzer as the Yellow Jackets prevailed by a score of 48-47 in Turner Gym in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
Lynchburg came out running in the first-half, jumping to a 13-6 lead at the 13:38 mark after a layup by junior Caitlin Falls (Moneta, VA/Staunton River). Randolph-Macon led 31-23 at halftime after a 14-0 run to close out the first half.
The Hornets fought their way back in the second half after facing an 11-point deficit. Junior Carly Greenlief (Centreville, VA/Westfield) put LC back on top 42-40 at the 7:19 mark with a pair of free throws.
With a made free throw by Randolph-Macon's Maggie Roy, the Yellow Jackets took a 48-47 lead with :07 left in the game. Lynchburg had two close shots at the buzzer, but was unable to convert.
Junior Katie Crump (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) led Lynchburg with 11 points while going 5-7 from the field, grabbing four rebounds and registering three blocks. Greenlief had 11 defensive rebounds in the game and eight points. Falls had ten points, three steals and seven total boards.
Lindsey Sharman led Randolph-Macon (3-2, 1-1 ODAC) with 13 points and seven rebounds.
Lynchburg (0-5, 0-2 ODAC) travels to Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday to take on the Marlins at 4 p.m.
