Ferrum Defeats LC Women 72-50

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Ferrum College women's basketball team defeated Lynchburg College 72-50 Saturday afternoon in non-conference play.

The Panthers led 17-13 with eight minutes left in the half, and finished the stanza with a 17-0 run to grab a 34-13 lead at intermission. The Ferrum defense forced Lynchburg into just 15 percent (5-33) shooting over the first 20 minutes. LC made a run midway through the second half with a 16-3 surge to cut the lead to 54-38; but could get no closer.

Courtney Brewer (Culpeper, VA/Highland) scored a team-high 19 points, hitting seven of her 13 shots from the field and three of six three-pointers. Katie Crump (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) posted seven points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots, while Caitlin Falls (Moneta, VA/Staunton River) grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

Freshman Shea Smith scored a game-high 23 points for Ferrum (5-2) and posted seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.  Kristen Keith and Tesla Akers each scored 12 points.

Lynchburg (0-8) is off until the New Year, hosting Eastern Mennonite University Tuesday, January 4 at 7 p.m.
