Box Score LC Volleyball goes undefeated during the Lynchburg College Invitational

LYNCHBURG, VA - After getting their first win of the season Friday against Johns Hopkins, the Lynchburg College volleyball team won three straight matches in the Lynchburg College Invitational by beating Johnson Wales, Randolph College and the University of Mary Washington.
Friday night's late match against Johnson Wales was a clean sweep for the Hornets as they won in three sets by scores of 25-15, 25-16, and 25-12. Senior outside hitter Michelle Boucher (Chesapeake, VA/Nansemond Suffolk) led the Hornet attack with seven kills but was closely followed by sophomore middle hitter Rachel Huffman (Virginia Beach, VA/Bayside) who had five kills on seven attempts and no errors. Senior Jasmine Murphy (Shipman, VA/Nelson County) continued her serving excellence by getting eight service aces.
After going 2-0 on Friday, Lynchburg headed into Saturday's matches red-hot. The Hornets took set one against Randolph in convincing fashion by winning 25-15, but the WildCats came right back to win the second set 25-17. Lynchburg responded and won the next two sets 25-10 and 25-13. Boucher caught fire by hitting 17 kills of 31 attempts with one error. Sophomore Rebecca Loftis (Coventry, CT/Coventry) got into double digit kills as well by going 11 of 17 with three errors. Murphy had 19 digs to help the Hornets defensively and Brooke Moughon (Mathews, VA/Mathews) had 26 assists.
LC closed out the tourney with an impressive 25-23, 25-19, 25-23 win over Mary Washington. Huffman and Marion Lozano (pictured left - Manassas, VA/Seton Hill) each had eight kills against the Eagles, while Moughon had 16 assists. Murphy posted a team-high 15 digs and Elena Kritter (Culpeper, VA/Rappahannock) had 10.
The Hornets (4-4) open Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Wednesday at home with a re-match with Randolph College at 6:30 p.m.
