LC Volleyball Drops Two at Maryville

MARYVILLE, TN - The Lynchburg College volleyball team opened its 2010 season Saturday, dropping a pair of matches at the Maryville College Invitational.

Emory (GA) University defeated Lynchburg (3-1) by the scores of 22-25, 25-17, 27-25, 25-16. The Hornets played very well against the third-ranked team in NCAA Division III, paced by sophomore Rebecca Loftis (Coventry, CT/Coventry) with seven kills and five blocks. Michelle Boucher (Chesapeake, VA/Nansemond Suffolk) and Marion Lozano (Manassas, VA/Seton Hill) had eight kills each. Mallory Stewart (Collinsville, VA/Bassett) added four blocks, Jasmine Murphy (Shipman, VA/Nelson County) had seven digs and Brooke Moughon (pictured left - Mathews, VA/Mathews) compiled 15 assists.

Mount St. Joseph defeated Lynchburg 25-17, 25-19, 25-23 in the second match of the day. Moughon led LC with 11 assists and 10 digs and Rachel Turk (Salem, VA/Salem) had 11 assists. Boucher had eight digs while Loftis had six.

Lynchburg will play Southwestern and Maryville Sunday.
