W&L Defeats LC Men's Basketball 80-73
LEXINGTON, VA - The Washington & Lee University men's basketball team escaped Sunday with an 80-73 victory over visiting Lynchburg College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game.
The Hornets led by as many as seven in the first half, but W&L took a 39-35 advantage into intermission. The Generals had a 62-54 lead but LC hit three three-pointers while giving up only a lay-up to pull within one at 64-63 with 4:28 remaining. Lynchburg twice pulled back within one down the stretch, but a jumper by Jeremy Adkins gave W&L a three-point lead with under a minute remaining and the Generals held on.
Junior forward Nate Campbell (Cary, NC/Cary) scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed seven boards. Robby Kaiser (East Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) nailed four three-pointers and finished with 16 points, while freshman Andrew Simmons (Chesterfield, VA/Meadowbrook) scored 13 points. Michael Wims (Standardsville, VA/William Monroe) tallied nine points, seven rebounds and three steals.
Adkins scored 19 points to lead Washington & Lee (11-4/4-3 ODAC), hitting four three points with five rebounds. Jon Guest posted 16 points and J.D. Ey had 14 points, converting all six of his field-goal attempts.
Each team shot 50 percent from the floor and committed 15 turnovers for the contest, with the Generals holding a 35-26 rebounding edge.
Lynchburg (6-10/2-6) travels to Randolph-Macon College Wednesday at 7 p.m.
