HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – The Lynchburg College men's basketball team held on for a 76-74 win Thursday evening in an important Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest.
Lynchburg held the game's biggest lead at halftime with a 39-26 edge. The Tigers cut the lead to just two at 49-47 with 12 minutes remaining and took the lead 71-70 with two minutes left after two free throws by Fletcher Lumpkin. A layup from Austin Chillemi (Richmond, VA/Trinity Episcopal) gave LC the lead back and free-throw shooting proved the difference as Tucker Lucas (Herndon, VA/Herndon) and Brandan Connor (Chesterfield, VA/Benedictine) hit four of six from the charity stripe down the stretch, while the Tigers missed a three-pointer at the buzzer on the clock for the win.
Nate Campbell (Cary, NC/Cary) led LC with 21 points and six assists. Lucas finished with 14 while Chillemi also posted 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Connor finished the night with nine points and five assists.
Tiger George Harrison tied Campbell with a game-high 21 points. Randall Ward rode 6-8 shooting for 16 points and added five assists and four rebounds. Ru White had 12 points and six rebounds for Hampden-Sydney (9-8/2-7 ODAC).
The Hornets (8-11/4-7 ODAC) travel to Johnson & Wales Sunday for a non-conference game at 2 p.m.
