Hornet Men Storm Out to 94-72 win over Marymount
ARLINGTON, VA- The Lynchburg College men's basketball team shot the lights out in their 94-72 win over Marymount (Va.) in non-league action Tuesday night. The team shot 54% from the field and 52% from three-point range, which included two 20-point scorers.
Junior post Austin Chillemi scored 20 points on 8-10 shooting and sophomore Manny Hernandez scored a game and career high 21 points on a perfect shooting night. He shot 8-8 from the field, including 5-5 from beyond the arc. Senior guard Tucker Lucas added 12 points for the cause. Chillemi filled up the stat sheet with eight rebounds, two blocks, and two assists on a solid overall night.
LC came out of the gates in the first half and took a commanding 45-18 lead going into halftime. With 13 minutes left in regulation, the Hornets controlled the game leading by 39. The Saints (2-2) would make a comeback, with Reed Scott and Jesse Konadu scoring 16 and 14 points respectively. However, the lead was insurmountable.
The great shooting night for the Lynchburg was overshadowed by the defense. LC held Marymount to 8-22 shooting in the first half and the Hornets pressure forced the Saints into committing 23 turnovers. The team had 12 total steals, with most of them coming from Brandan Connor. Living up to his reputation as a stellar defender, the junior wing tied the school-record for most steals in a game with nine. Connor tied the 28 year-old record and is currently averaging 4.5 steals a game.
Lynchburg (3-1) concluded its three game road-trip with the win. They head back to Lynchburg, VA and Turner Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon as they take on the Goucher Gophers at 3 p.m.
