Lynchburg Wins Fourth Straight, Defeats Emory & Henry 65-53
EMORY, VA – Entering the most important stretch of the season, the Lynchburg College women's basketball team won their fourth-straight game, defeating Emory & Henry College 65-53 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play on Friday.
Coming off the bench, freshman Roslyn Alexander (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendenowa) had a team-high 14 points in the game, going 4-5 from three-point range. Fellow freshman Caleigh Patterson (Fairfax, VA/Fairfax) went 5-8 from the field, scoring ten points while grabbing three rebounds.
Lynchburg grabbed their first lead of the game at the 17:11 mark of the first half off a three-pointer from senior Courtney Brewer (Culpeper, VA/Highland), making the score 6-5. The Hornets never looked back from that point on, and led the rest of the way through. A twenty-point lead separated Lynchburg from Emory & Henry at halftime, 38-18.
Lynchburg led by as much as 26 in the second half, before the Wasps narrowed it to a 12-point deficit, ending in a 65-53 victory for the Hornets.
Junior Caitlin Falls (Moneta, VA/Staunton River) went 3-5 from the floor, ending with nine points and four boards. Fellow junior Carly Greenlief (Centreville, VA/Westfield) led the team in rebounds with eight while sophomore Rebecca Speck finished the game with seven points, shooting 3-4 from the floor.
Jalan McPherson led Emory & Henry (3-17/2-14 ODAC) with fourteen points.
Lynchburg (7-15/7-10 ODAC) heads to Guilford College tomorrow to face the Quakers at 4 p.m.
