GREENSBORO, NC - Despite a career-high 22 points from Hornet senior guard Courtney Brewer (Culpeper, VA/Highland), the Guilford College women's basketball team defeated Lynchburg College 77-69 Saturday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play. The loss snaps LC's four-game winning streak.
The Quakers led 40-31 at the half and looked to be cruising after taking a 20-point lead with 12:32 left in the contest (55-35). Lynchburg responded with a 19-2 run, behind six points each from Roslyn Alexander (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendenowa) and Carly Greenlief (Centreville, VA/Westfield), to pull within three at 57-54 with seven minutes remaining. Guilford scored the next 15 points to put the game out of reach.
Brewer sunk four three-pointers en route to her game-high point total. Alexander hit 4-of-5 three point attempts and finished with 13 points while Caitlin Falls (Moneta, VA/Staunton River) tallied 12 points and seven rebounds. Katie Crump (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) recorded seven points, nine rebounds and three assists.
Jazlyn Gibbs had 18 points and four assists for the Quakers (12-9, 8-8 ODAC). Morgan King grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds with 13 points and Brittany Atwater tallied 15 points and six caroms.
Lynchburg (7-16, 7-11 ODAC) travels to Roanoke College Tuesday night for another ODAC game at 7 p.m.
