W&L Defeats Lynchburg 72-60 on Senior Day
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College women's basketball team played a hard fought game with Washington & Lee University, but could not pull it out at the end, losing 72-60 on Saturday night in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
Washington & Lee forward Becca Bolton scored a program-record 39 points in the game, going 11-15 from the floor and 16-18 from the free-throw line.
The Hornets held their 'Pink Zone' night raising awareness for breast cancer and honored senior Courtney Brewer (Culpeper, VA/Highland). Brewer finished the game with 18 points and 13 rebounds, earning the double-double in her final home game at Turner Gym.
Lynchburg led as much as 12 points in the first-half after a three-pointer from Brewer at the 7:18 mark. Bolton kept the Generals in the first-half, scoring 23 points and grabbing five rebounds. It was close at halftime, with W&L going to the locker room with a 36-35 lead.
Both teams exchanged leads in the second half, though W&L would eventually pull ahead after a 9-0 run late in the game, ending with a 72-60 final score.
Junior Katie Crump (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) went 8-13 from the floor for 20 points and grabbed seven caroms. Fellow junior forward Caitlin Falls (Moneta, VA/Staunton River) was in double figures as well, scoring 10 points.
Meg Ingram had 12 points and seven boards for the Generals (17-7/13-6 ODAC).
Lynchburg (7-18/7-13) has completed their regular season, and will now await the ODAC Tournament next week in Salem, VA. The Hornets will play the #1 seed on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 1 p.m. in the Salem Civic Center. Brackets will be released shortly.
