Lynchburg ends season with loss to Washington & Lee
LYNCHBURG, VA – Despite 22 points from junior forward Nate Campbell (Cary, NC/Cary) the Lynchburg men's basketball team lost to Washington & Lee University 66-51 in the first round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament on Tuesday night. The loss ends the Hornets season.
Campbell put up 18 of his points in the first half, including the first 16 points of the game for the Hornet. Lynchburg headed to halftime down by one to the Generals, 25-24.
The Generals took the game over after the half, jumping up to an 11 point lead at the 13:17 mark of the second. Lynchburg though was unable to comeback, falling 66-51.
Junior Austin Chillemi (Richmond, VA/Trinity Episcopal) led LC with six rebounds and chipped in six points as well. In his final game, senior Quintin Aldridge (Fredericksburg, VA/CD Hylton) put up four points and grabbed three rebounds along with two steals.
Lynchburg finishes the season with an 11-15 record overall and a 6-10 record in conference. While the team loses Aldridge next season, LC expects to return forwards Campbell and Chillemi along with guards Tucker Lucas (Herndon, VA/Herndon) and Robby Kaiser (East Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) among a talented young squad of returning players.
W&L (14-12) advances to play #1 seeded Virginia Wesleyan in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament on Friday at 1 p.m. in Salem, VA.
