SALEM, VA - The 2010-2011 season came to an end Thursday afternoon in Salem, VA as eighth-seeded Lynchburg College fell to top seeded Randolph Macon College 74-49. The Hornets drew the highest-ranked team in the league for its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament game under first-year head coach, Abby Pyzik.
Junior Carly Greenlief (Centreville, VA) paced the Hornets in the first half, scoring nine points on 4-5 shooting from the floor. The Hornets trailed by only three points with 4:19 remaining in the first half, but Randolph Macon ended the first half leading by the score of 27-19.
Randolph Macon controlled the second half as the Yellow Jackets went on a 24-4 run to take control of the game. The Hornets were unable to comeback though, falling 74-49.
Lynchburg's only senior, Courtney Brewer (Culpeper, VA) led the Hornets with 11 points, and junior forward Caitlin Falls (Moneta, VA) had an impressive game as she notched a double-double, scoring 10 points and snaring 11 rebounds. Freshman guard Roslyn Alexander (Clifton Park, NY) chipped in 11 points as well.
The Hornets finished the season with a 7-19 overall record and a 7-13 record in ODAC play. The team will miss the leadership and excellent play of senior Courtney Brewer, but LC will return four starters and will add to its talented young squad with next year's recruiting class.
Randolph Macon (20-6) advances to play the winner of No. 4 Washington & Lee and No. 5 Eastern Mennonite on Saturday, February 26th in the Salem Civic Center.
