LYNCHBURG, VA – A 12-2 second-half run fueled the Lynchburg College men's basketball team's 74-60 victory Saturday over visiting Bridgewater College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.
The Hornets led 37-29 at halftime and junior Nate Campbell (Cary, NC/Cary) nailed two jumpers right after intermission to extend the lead to 12. Lynchburg led 48-37 with 16:16 on the game clock before a 9-0 Eagle run, the first seven points from Cody Griffith, closed the lead to 48-46. The Hornets answered with the 12-2 spurt to go ahead 60-48 and LC led by double figures the rest of the way.
Campbell finished with game highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Austin Chillemi (Richmond, VA/Trinity Episcopal) netted 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor, while Brandan Connor (Chesterfield, VA/Benedictine) and Tucker Lucas (Herndon, VA/Herndon) each scored seven points and snared four rebounds. Quintin Aldridge (Fredericksburg, VA/CD Hylton) nailed a three-pointer and ended with four points after he was honored before the game as the program's lone senior on Senior Day. Manager Ryan Killilea was recognized as well in a pre-game ceremony.
Griffith scored a team-high 13 points for Bridgewater (6-14/2-9 ODAC). Rick Maloney posted 11 points and six caroms. The Hornet defense forced the Eagles into shooting only 33 percent (18-54) from the floor and 25 percent (3-12) from beyond the three-point line.
Lynchburg (10-12/5-8 ODAC) hosts Randolph College Wednesday at 7 p.m. in more ODAC play.
