Lynchburg Nets Last Minute Victory Over Hollins

LYNCHBURG, VA – Trailing by one with 22 seconds left in the game, junior Carly Greenlief (Centreville, VA/Westfield) hit a pair of free throws to give the Lynchburg College women's basketball team a much-needed victory over Hollins University in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play on Saturday.

Lynchburg raced to a 13-3 lead in the first four minutes of play fueled by three three-pointers. Hollins got back into the game with a 12-0 run, beginning at the 13:38 mark. The Hornets came back to take the lead 30-29 right before halftime with a free throw from junior Caitlin Falls (Moneta, VA/Staunton River). Falls finished with 11 points, going 4-7 from the field.

Both teams traded shots in the second half, with Hollins leading as much as seven with 1:45 left. Freshman Roslyn Alexander (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendenowa) came through with two clutch three-point buckets twenty-seconds apart to come within one at the 1:04 mark. A couple of big stops from the Lynchburg defense forced Hollins to foul, sending Greenlief to the line for the game-winning shots. A pair of free throws from junior Annie Terry (Appomattox, VA/Appomattox) helped ice the 67-64 victory.

Greenlief led all shooters with 22 points while grabbing eight rebounds and blocking three shots. Senior Courtney Brewer (Culpeper, VA/Highland) dropped 12 points while registering five rebounds. Junior Katie Crump (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) gathered in 11 rebounds, all defensive, while chipping in four assists and five points.
