Roslyn Alexander Nets Career High 22 Points
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College women's basketball team forced Virginia Wesleyan College into just 32 percent shooting from the floor Tuesday night and freshman Roslyn Alexander (Clifton Forge, NY/Shenendenowa) netted a career-best 22 points to forge a 68-54 victory in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.
It took the Marlins four minutes to get on the board as LC took an early 5-0 lead. The Hornets led 13-10 and used a 14-4 run, behind back-to-back three-pointers from Alexander, to open a 27-14 edge late in the first half. At halftime LC was ahead 31-20 and scored the first six points of the second half to extend the lead to 17 points. Virginia Wesleyan trailed 47-33 with 8:28 left before rallying to make the finish tight. The Marlins used a 13-3 surge to pull within four with five minutes to play, but LC made 11-straight free throws when it counted.
Alexander nailed 4-of-5 three-point attempts and added four rebounds and three steals. Senior guard Courtney Brewer (Culpeper, VA/Highland) sunk 11 of her 14 free-throw attempts for 11 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds despite standing just 5-4. Brewer also added four steals, while Caitlin Falls (Moneta, VA/Staunton River) also had 11 points and Annie Terry (Appomattox, VA/Appomattox) had 10 points with five rebounds. Carly Greenlief (Centreville, VA/Westfield) tallied eight points and five rebounds and Katie Crump (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) compiled six points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Kristen Blalock scored a game-high 23 points for VWC (10-11/7-8 ODAC) with five rebounds and Rachael Miller posted 11 points. The Hornets held a 42-26 rebounding advantage and had a large edge in scoring from the free throw line, hitting 27-of-37 (73%) to VWC's 12 of 17 (71%).
Lynchburg (6-15/6-10 ODAC) travels to Emory & Henry College for another ODAC matchup Friday evening at 7 p.m.
