STEVENSON, MD – Jimmy Dailey scored five times and added two assists Saturday as Stevenson University, the second-ranked team in NCAA Division III, defeated #9 Lynchburg College 16-8 in non-conference play.

The Hornets took a 2-1 first-quarter lead on goals by Ben Sauer (Richmond, VA/Collegiate School) and Eddie Bilinkas (Randolph, NJ/Randolph), assisted by Derek Sweet (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) and Andrew Wilfong (Columbus, OH/Worthington Kilbourne), respectively. Stevenson scored twice in the final 10 seconds of the quarter and quickly scored again to open the second stanza. Bilinkas answered to cut the lead to 4-3, but the Mustangs netted four of the next five tallies, two by Dailey, to take an 8-4 lead into intermission.

Sweet and Sauer found the back of the net following halftime to cut the Mustang lead to 8-6, but Stevenson answered with four-straight scores to close out the third period ahead 12-6. Sweet and Dylan Hoff (Chester Springs, PA/Downingtown East) netted goals to start the fourth but LC could get no closer and Stevenson closed the game with four unanswered goals.

Sweet posted two goals and two assists while Sauer had two scores and an assist. Hoff and Bilinkas each also scored twice and Wilfong finished with three assists. Franc Cook (Milton, DE/Cape Henlopen) made 17 stops in net for Lynchburg.

Stevenson out-shot LC 59-18 and converted four of 10 extra-man opportunities.

Richie Ford had two goals and two assists for SU (6-0) and Tony Rossi, Ray Witte and Neal Barthelme each scored twice.

The Hornets (4-2) host Stevens Tech Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
