LYNCHBURG, VA- Noah Gibby scored four times Saturday night as the Roanoke College men's lacrosse team rallied to post a 14-11 victory over Lynchburg College in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener for both teams.
The Hornets took a 5-4 first-half lead, fueled by two goals by Dylan Hoff (Chester Springs, PA/Downingtown East) and one each from Joe Lisicky (Chadds Ford, PA/Unionville), Max Voumard (Cape May, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) and Eddie Bilinkas (Randolph, NJ/Randolph). The Hornets owned the third quarter, extending their lead to 9-4 on two scores from Derek Sweet (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury), one from Voumard and another by Matt Manzo (Leesburg, VA/Notre Dame Academy).
Andrew Wilfong (Columbus, OH/ Worthington Kilbourne) scored to open the fourth period, but Roanoke's Mike Hayden answered with the Maroons first goal since the end of the first period. Phil Petronelli (Reistertown, MD/Loyola Blakefield) scored an unassisted goal at the 13:42 mark to give LC an 11-5 edge before Roanoke took over. The Maroons netted the game's final nine goals in the last 11 minutes, three from Gibby and two each from Richard Lachlan and Conner Dubois.
Hoff, Voumard and Sweet each had two goals for LC. The Maroon's Hayden had three goals and an assist while Trey Keeley added three assists. Roanoke's Justin Tuma won 10 of his 17 face offs and the Maroons won 18 of the game's 28. Lisicky scooped six ground balls and caused two turnovers to pace the LC defense.
The Hornets (4-4/0-1 ODAC) travel to Washington & Lee University next Saturday for another ODAC game at 3 p.m.
