LC Lacrosse Drops Close Contest to W&L
LEXINGTON, VA – A late goal by Jack Switala gave the Washington & Lee University men's lacrosse team a 4-3 victory over Lynchburg College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play on Saturday.
W&L led 1-0 after the first quarter until sophomore Max Voumard (Cape May, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) answered with an unassisted goal at the 5:42 mark of the second quarter. The Generals took to halftime with a 2-1 advantage.
Sophomore Joe Lisicky (Chadds Ford, PA/Unionville) tied up the game just over six minutes after halftime at 8:57 of the third quarter. W&L netted their third goal exactly three minutes later but LC fought back again with a goal from sophomore Derek Sweet (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury).
Switala put up the go-ahead goal at 12:31 of the fourth and the Generals were able to hold back Lynchburg in the final period ending with a 4-3 victory.
Lisicky and junior Jeff Schwartz (New City, NY/The Tabor Academy) led Lynchburg with four groundballs each. Senior Pat Luckhurst (Duluth, GA/Wesleyan School) caused three turnovers in the game.
Junior goalie Franc Cook (Milton, DE/Cape Henlopen) made 13 saves on the afternoon while Jason Lumpkin made ten saves for the Generals (6-4/3-0 ODAC).
Lynchburg (4-5/0-2 ODAC) returns home next Saturday to host Hampden-Sydney College at 7 pm.
