LC Wins Battle of Top 20 Men's lacrosse Teams 9-4 at Cabrini
RADNOR, PA – Sophomore Max Voumard (Cape May, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) scored three times Saturday as the 11th-ranked Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team defeated #17 Cabrini College 9-4 in non-conference play.
Voumard scored the game's first two goals, followed by unassisted tallies by Eddie Bilinkas (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) and Joe Lisicky (Chadds Ford, PA/Unionville) as LC took a 4-0 lead after one quarter of play. Bobby Thorpe scored for Cabrini in the second, but Hornet Charlie Oldendorp (Madison, NJ/Madison) answered just before halftime to make it 5-1. The teams each scored once in the third and traded goals start the fourth stanza, but Voumard and Ben Sauer (Richmond, VA/Collegiate School) found the back of the net to extend the lead to 9-3. The Cavaliers added a late score.
Chris Eggeling (Barrington, RI/Providence Country Day), Andrew Wilfong (Columbus, OH/Worthington Kilbourne), Bilinkas and Sauer each had a goal and an assist.
Senior keeper Franc Cook (Milton, DE/Cape Henlopen) was superb in net, making 20 saves while allowing four goals in 60 minutes. Cook's performance allowed the Hornets to record the comfortable margin of victory despite getting outshot 48-27. Steve Oppenheimer stopped seven shots for Cabrini (0-2) in just under 50 minutes of play and gave up five scores.
Junior Jeff Schwartz (New City, NY/The Tabor Academy) took all of the face-offs for LC and won 13 of 17 draws and scooped a game-high nine groundballs.
The Hornets (3-1) return home Wednesday to host Swarthmore College at 2 p.m.
