Bilinkas' Last Second Goal Fuels in 8-7 over Hampden Sydney
LYNCHBURG, VA – Senior midfielder Eddie Bilinkas (Randolph, NJ/Randolph ) scored the game-winning goal with one second remaining on the clock as the Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team posted an 8-7 victory over Hampden Sydney College Saturday night in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game.
Lynchburg scored the game's first two goals before H-SC answered. Junior midfield Andrew Wilfong (Columbus, OH/Worthington Kilbourne) netted his second tally of the night to open the second-period scoring and Matt Manzo (Leesburg, VA/Notre Dame Academy) followed with an unassisted goal. The Tigers scored twice but Charlie Oldendorp (Madison, NJ/Madison) scored to give the Hornets a 5-3 edge heading into intermission.
The teams traded goals in the third period and Hampden-Sydney's Micah Keller scored with 2:43 left in the stanza to bring the score to 6-5. Keller and Cole Hawthorne netted tallies in the fourth to give the Tigers' their only lead of the game, 7-6. Wilfong earned the hat trick with less than two minutes remaining to tie the score and Joe Lisicky (Chads Ford, PA/Unionville) forced a Tiger turnover in the final minute to set up Bilinkas' heroics.
Chris Eggeling (Barrington, RI/Providence Country Day) and Phil Petronelli (Reistertown, MD/Loyola Blakefield) also each had a goal for LC.
Keller and Hawthorne each scored three times for H-SC (6-3/0-2 ODAC) and Carter Mavromatis had a goal and two assists.
Lynchburg controlled the ball much of the game, aided by Jeff Schwartz (New City, NY/The Tabor Academy) winning 14 of his 18 face offs. Franc Cook (Milton, DE/Cape Henlopen) made nine saves while Tiger keeper Cody Hornung made 14 stops.
The Hornets (5-5/1-2 ODAC) host Randolph College for another conference game Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
