Derek Sweet Scores Six as Lynchburg Defeats R-MC 16-10 in ODAC Quarters

LYNCHBURG, VA – Sophomore attack Derek Sweet (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) scored six times Wednesday night as the Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team posted a 16-10 victory over Randolph Macon College in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament.

Sophomore midfield Max Voumard (Cape May, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) scored the opening goal for the Hornets early in the first period, but the Yellow Jackets responded quickly as Patrick Egan found the back of the net tying up the contest at one. The Hornets scored the game's next six tallies, two each from Dylan Hoff (Chester Springs, PA/Downingtown East) and Chris Eggeling (Barrington, RI/Providence Country Day), to take a 7-1 lead. Following a Randolph-Macon goal, Lynchburg rattled off the next three to take a commanding 10-2 lead. The Hornets led 16-4 early in the final stanza and R-MC netted the final six goals.

Eggeling had a hat trick and added an assist. Andrew Wilfong (Columbus, OH/Worthington Kilbourne) and Hoff each had two tallies along with one assist. Charlie Oldendrop (Madison, NJ/Madison), Tyler Burford (West Friendship, MD/Glenelg) and Voumard each also scored one tally for the Hornets.

Lynchburg College controlled the ball much of the game aided by Jeff Schwartz (New City, NY/The Tabor Academy) winning 13 of his 16 face offs. Franc Cook (Milton, DE/Cape Henlopen) made eight saves along with seven groundballs in 45 minutes in the net.

The third-seeded Hornets will travel Saturday to #2 Washington & Lee University for a semi-final match-up at 7 p.m. The victor advances to the conference title game the following weekend against the winner of the top-seeded Roanoke College/#4 Hampden-Sydney College game.
