Hornet Men Roll to 88-63 Win over Washington & Lee
LYNCHBURG, VA – A 24-2 run to open the game powered the Lynchburg College men's basketball team to an 88-63 victory over visiting Washington & Lee University Saturday afternoon in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest from Turner Gymnasium.
The Hornets held the Generals without a field goal in the first 8:23 of the game and hit four three pointers to take the early 22-point edge. Lynchburg held an advantage of at least 13 points the rest of the game, and had a 30-point edge late in the game.
Lynchburg tied the school record for most three-point field goals made, hitting 13 of 27 attempts (51%). Four Hornets scored in double figures, paced by junior pivot man Austin Chillemi's 16 points and game-high eight rebounds. Junior guard Brandan Connor also netted 16 points to tie for the game high, and also added five rebounds. Junior Nate Campbell scored 15 points, and sophomore guard Manny Hernandez had 10. Sophomore Xavier Parham delivered 11 assists and Robby Kaiser hit two three pointers in the surge to start the game.
J.D. Ey scored 12 points and added six rebounds and four assists for the Generals (9-6/3-4 ODAC). Larry Whitaker had eight points and had six rebounds. The Hornet defense held the Generals to 36 percent shooting from the floor (19-53) and 19 percent from three-point land (3-16).
The victory was LC's first over W&L since the 2005-06 campaign.
The Hornets (10-6/5-3 ODAC) host Randolph-Macon College Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in more ODAC action.
