Second Half Run Fuels Guilford Past LC Women's Basketball
GREENSBORO, NC – Despite a close first half, the Lynchburg College women's basketball team fell to Guilford College 64-51 on Saturday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.
Lynchburg finished with three players in double-digits in scoring on Saturday, including freshman Shannon Allan who scored 17 while registering seven rebounds. Freshman Katie Reeves scored 13 points and senior Carly Greenlief added 10.
Both teams played an extremely close first half, with multiple lead changes. A jumper from Allan knotted the game at 24 at the 1:56 mark but a shot from Jaslyn Gibbs with 45 seconds left, led the Quakers to a 26-24 lead at halftime. Gibbs finished the day with 18 points and six rebounds.
Guilford jumped out to an early five-point lead in the second half, yet LC tied the game at 31 after a three-point bucket from Greenlief. The Quakers then went on a 12-0 run beginning at 17:23 of the period to push the lead to 43-31.
A couple of back-to-back three-point baskets from Reeves and sophomore Roslyn Alexander narrowed the Guilford lead to six with 7:52 remaining, but the Quakers closed out the half to edge the Hornets 64-51.
Alyssa Oursler led Guilford (13-3/10-1 ODAC) with 23 points and seven rebounds, while Brittany Atwater chipped in 13 points.
Senior Katie Crump had eight points and seven rebounds for LC.
Lynchburg (4-11/3-7 ODAC) host Randolph-Macon College on Tuesday in Turner Gym at 7 p.m.
