Nate Campbell Drops Career-High 30 Points as LC Defeats Methodist 92-79
LYNCHBURG, VA – Senior forward Nate Campbell scored a career-high 30 points Saturday afternoon as the Lynchburg College men's basketball team cruised to a 92-79 non-conference victory over visiting Methodist University.
Campbell drilled eight of 11 shots in the first half to finish with 19 in the stanza and push LC to a 46-35 lead at intermission. The Hornets led 24-21 midway through the first and lengthened the advantage with a 12-0 run. A 10-1 surge to begin the second half put the game out of reach.
Campbell was 13-of-18 for the game and 3-of-6 from beyond the three-point arc and added a team-high seven rebounds. Sophomore point guard Harry West filled the stat sheet with 16 points, seven assists and four rebounds and Tucker Lucas had 14 points and four assists. Manny Hernandez ended with nine points.
Mark Jernigan scored 23 points for Methodist (5-15), hitting all five of his three-point attempts. James Whitehead added 22 points and seven rebounds and Bryan Hockaday tallied 13 points, a game-high eight caroms, four steals, three assists and two blocked shots.
Both teams shot well from behind the three-point arc, with Lynchburg hitting 41 percent of its tries (11-27) and the Monarchs drilling 63 percent (10-16).
The Hornets (12-8) travel to Eastern Mennonite University Wednesday for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest at 7 p.m.
